Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer credit from AP, CLEP, IB, or Cambridge programs?
Yes! You’ll have to submit those exam scores to us as part of your application for test credit that can be applied towards your ºÚÁÏÃÅdegree. However, test credit and high school dual enrollment credit do not satisfy the 20 minimum college credits required to complete a transfer application for admission as a transfer student. Learn more about Loyola’s transfer credit policy.
Is a college essay or personal statement required for my transfer application?
No, an essay or personal statement is optional. However, submitting one can provide additional context about your academic and career goals, personal achievements, or any challenges you’ve faced.
Will the optional essay or personal statement impact my application if I choose not to submit one?
The essay is optional and is not required for your application to be considered. However submitting an essay can provide insights into your background and experiences, which can be beneficial to your application.
I don’t see a place to upload my optional essay/personal statement. What should I do?
You can upload your essay after submitting your transfer application. If you encounter any issues, you can email your essay directly to admissionforms@luc.edu.
What should I write about in my optional essay or personal statement?
You have the freedom to choose your topic. You can write about your academic and career goals, highlight personal achievements, or explain any challenges you have overcome. The goal is to provide the admissions committee with a deeper understanding of who you are beyond your transcript and application.
How long can my essay or personal statement be?
Your essay and personal statement should be limited to one page, or 500 words or less.
I’m not sure what type of application to submit. Should I apply as a first-year or a transfer?
If you are finishing high school or have graduated a semester early, or if you’re currently enrolled in your first semester (freshman year) of college, apply for first-year admission. This applies even if you have dual credits or expect AP test credits. If you complete a year of college (20 or more college credits) after high school, submit a transfer application.
