Rome Start Global Scholars鈥

Interested in expanding your horizons and making a difference in a global context? Want to have a first-year experience like no other?鈥
The Rome Start Global Scholars program gives first-year LUC students the opportunity to begin their university journey in Rome for a full academic year, acquiring the skills to become agents of social change as part of a select community that merges learning and action!鈥
The Rome Start Global Scholars program offers three concentrations:鈥
- Human Rights
- International Relations and Business
- Sustainable Development
Rooted in Jesuit values, the program approaches all three areas within a human rights, ethical care, and social justice framework.鈥
Course-wise, first-year students will be able to complete much of the required LUC core curriculum while in Rome. As part of this, Rome Start Global Scholars are required to take three specific courses: a one credit course introducing them to university life (UNIV 101) and two courses connected to their concentration of choice. Students are also encouraged to actively get involved with the local Roman community through an engaged learning course (a Service Learning course in the fall or spring semester, or an Internship in the spring semester).鈥
To help mentor students in their concentrations and to support their reflection on how their coursework links to their interest areas, each student will have a faculty advisor they can periodically connect with during the academic year.鈥
Program activities, events, and trips 颈苍肠濒耻诲别:鈥
- Special talks/workshops related to global citizenship and leadership鈥
- Community gatherings鈥
- An 鈥淚gnatian Day of Reflection鈥 retreat鈥
- An active learning trip to a city/event that is connected to the program鈥檚 concentrations.鈥
Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Rome Start Global Scholars certificate testifying their preparation, ability, and commitment to be tomorrow鈥檚 leaders in an international context.鈥

After their first year in Rome, once in Chicago, students will join a community of just over 10,000 undergraduate students and over 5,000 graduate and professional students. They will have the opportunity to further explore over 70 different undergraduate major and minor options, and complete their degree there. Rome Start is a great way for students to add a global perspective to their education while earning a renowned 黑料门degree!鈥
