Welcome to the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis (OIRA)!
The OIRA transforms data into information that supports academic and administrative decision making for improving institutional effectiveness, informing strategic initiatives, policy formation, accreditation, program evaluation, and assessment.
Our mission is grounded in a steadfast and shared commitment to the learning outcomes of ºÚÁÏÃÅstudents and the larger mission of ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago.
To accomplish this mission, OIRA performs the following functions:
Institutional Research and Statistical Modeling
- OIRA conducts institutional research that serves University stakeholders and satisfies external reporting requirements for government, state, and accreditation bodies;
- Provides institutional research consultation to the University community;
- Reports updated University information to annual college guides and ranking organizations;
- Compares ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago to its peer institutions;
- Engages in predictive modeling and forecasting,
- Conducts a variety of institutional analysis using various types of statistical modeling methods, and
- Responds to internal and external ad hoc data requests.
Survey Research
- OIRA initiates and conducts studies and surveys within the University community;
- Coordinates the University’s participation in national studies of higher education; and
- Coordinates the University’s own survey implementation.

OIRA supports a variety of analysis and data provision for collaborative use in
- Enrollment Planning
- Tuition Forecasting
- Faculty Salary Analysis
- Faculty Salary Equity Analysis
- Faculty Workload Planning
- Academic Program Planning
- Space Planning
- Student Success
- Donor Solicitation Proposals
- Various Other Types of Planning
University Assessment, Evaluation, and Accreditation Leadership
- OIRA measures, describes, and documents institutional effectiveness and coordinates information used for assessment and program evaluation, and accreditation
- OIRA coordinates university-wide assessment and program evaluation via a university-represented coordinating body.
- OIRA engages in program evaluation directly as well as offering advice and direction to other units seeking to design program evaluations.
- Supports the campus community with ongoing evaluations of academic programming and assessments of student learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Data Governance
- OIRA is charged with implementing university –wide data governance in partnership with Institutional Technology Services (ITS)
- Coordinates and manages the implementation of institutional data governance that includes working groups focused on data quality and integrity, data management and access, data security and architecture, data retention, university business process refinement intended to maintain data quality, management, and security, and institutional data literacy
- Serves as the official clearinghouse for accurate and reliable university data
