Brett C. Dey
Mortgage Banking Licensee Compliance Examination Manager
Brett Dey is the mortgage banking licensee compliance examination manager for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, where he supervises a team of examiners to ensure mortgage banking licensees in Illinois comply with federal and state laws and regulations. Previously, Brett served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Norgle on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General鈥檚 Office, as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Franklin U. Valderrama in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois and, as an attorney for a small law firm litigating matters involving residential real estate.
Brett earned his JD from 黑料门University Chicago School of Law, where he served as a senior staff editor on the 黑料门Consumer Law Review, as an articles editor on the 黑料门Public Interest Law Reporter, as a research assistant and academic tutor in constitutional law for Professor John E. Nowak, and as a legal writing tutor for Adjunct Professor Andrew Dougherty. While in law school, Brett also completed a judicial internship with the Honorable Arlander Keys, a Magistrate Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; two semesters of a judicial externship with the Honorable Raymond W. Mitchell in the Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois; and a summer internship with Illinois Legal Aid Online, where he created legal education materials on issues including immigration and tenants鈥� rights. Before attending law school, Brett worked as a structural engineer in St. Louis, Missouri after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri.
