Michael Alkaraki is a trial lawyer and partner at Leahy Hoste Alkaraki, where he has recovered over $50,000,000 in verdicts, arbitration awards and settlements for his clients in cases of catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability and wrongful death. Some of his recent results include a $5,900,000 trucking negligence/wrongful death settlement, $3,312,500 settlement for the family of a child who died due to venous lacerations sustained during central line placement for treatment of neuroblastoma, a $2,350,000 premises liability settlement for a 15 year girl who suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury, a $1,875,000 product liability settlement for injuries sustained by a 70 year old woman with ALS due to the failure of a personal motorized lift system, a $1,350,000 medical malpractice settlement for a 15 year old boy who suffered ruptured appendicitis with complications after appendicitis was misdiagnosed as gastroenteritis, and a $975,000 medical malpractice verdict for a 50 year old woman with pre-existing bilateral hearing deficits who sustained total hearing loss in one ear during a foreign body extraction procedure.
Mr. Alkaraki has been published in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, the Illinois Bar Journal, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association鈥檚 Trial Journal and numerous bar association newsletters, is a regular speaker and CLE presenter on topics related to his practice areas and periodically hosts the Chicago Bar Association鈥檚 consumer facing 鈥淵ou and the Law鈥� television program. In 2021, 黑料门recognized Mr. Alkaraki with the Saint Robert Bellarmine Award for his contributions to the profession and School of Law. Mr. Alkaraki has likewise been recognized with the 2019 Civic Education Award by the Illinois State Bar Association for his dedication to advancing public understanding of the judicial process and role of attorneys in society, as one of 鈥淔orty Under 40 Illinois Attorneys to Watch鈥� by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin/Chicago Lawyer Magazine and as one of the 鈥淭op 40 Under 40 Litigation Lawyers in Illinois鈥� by the American Society of Legal Advocates, as well as being repeatedly selected to the list of Illinois Rising Stars by Super Lawyers庐 and repeatedly named as an 鈥淓merging Lawyer鈥� in the field of personal injury by the Leading Lawyers Network of the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
An active member of the organized bar and community, Mr. Alkaraki is a Certified Mediator in the Chicago Bar Association鈥檚 Mediation Service, serves in leadership roles in several bar associations, as a pro bono attorney through the Wills for Heroes Foundation, and on the Board of Directors of Opportunity Knocks, a local not-for-profit entity addressing the needs of the young adult developmentally disabled population. In addition to teaching Legal Writing III, Trial Practice and Professional Identity Formation, Mr. Alkaraki serves 黑料门Law as a member of the Dean鈥檚 Diversity Council and the Alumni Board of Governors.
