IT Support Guidelines for Emeritus Faculty
The following guidelines outline the level of IT support provided by Information Technology Services (ITS) to Emeritus Faculty at ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago (LUC):
- Support for University-Owned Equipment and Services. ITS provides support exclusively for university-owned equipment and university-provided services. This includes, but is not limited to:
- University-issued computers, tablets, and peripherals
- LUC email accounts and related services
- Campus network access (including WiFi and VPN)
- Official university applications and licensed software
ITS cannot offer support for:
-
- Personally-owned computers, mobile devices, or other hardware
- Home or personal network connections
- Personal websites, 3rd-party software, or peripherals
- Technology Support for Teaching and Research. Emeritus faculty who continue to engage in official teaching and research activities at LUC will receive the same level of technology support as full-time faculty members. This includes access to teaching-related technology resources and technical assistance for research projects.
- Access to Core Services for Fully Retired Emeritus Faculty. Fully retired Emeritus Faculty are entitled to continued access to essential LUC services, including:
-
- University email accounts
Campus WiFi and VPN services - For assistance with these centrally-provided services, Emeritus Faculty are encouraged to contact the ITS support team directly.
- University email accounts
- Software Licensing and Technology Return. Due to software licensing agreements, most LUC-purchased software does not extend to emeritus faculty members. As a result:
-
- Any university-licensed software installed on personal or university-issued devices must be uninstalled, and licenses returned to LUC upon full retirement.
- All technology (computers, peripherals, etc.) purchased with University, School, or Grant funds must be returned to LUC within three months of transitioning to full retirement status.
This policy ensures that emeritus faculty can maintain access to critical university systems while adhering to legal and contractual obligations regarding software and hardware use.
