What is ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert?

ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert is Loyola's emergency notification system that provides personalized, time-sensitive alerts to students, faculty, staff, and other personnel in the event of threats to physical safety in emergency situations at all of Loyola's three Chicagoland campuses. ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert will be used to send messages in accordance with the emergency notification requirement of the Clery Act. Current faculty, staff, and students are enrolled in ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert by default based on the information the University has on file. To update your contact information, .  

How does ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert work?

ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert allows the University to send emergency messages to students, faculty, and staff via cell phone, landline phone, and/or e-mail. When a threat is identified, Campus Safety will immediately send messages via registered participants' preferred communication channels. Members of the campus community are notified by whatever contact information they have provided the University. For example, a staff member might be notified simultaneously by personal email and cell phone. ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert also has notification towers on the Lake Shore and Water Tower Campuses that emit sirens and voice alerts. 

What types of emergencies will trigger a ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert?

ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert may be used for on-campus incidents that pose a significant threat to life or bodily harm, including the folowing...

  • Active Shooters
  • Life-threatening weather emergencies
  • Civil emergencies
  • Health emergencies as ordered by public health authorities

Is there a fee to enroll in ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert?

No, ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert is free for all registrants. You may be responsible for fees from your cell phone provider for incoming messages. 

What phone number will I see on my Caller ID when I receive a ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert call?

ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert message calls will come from 773.508.2485. We recommend that you program a unique and audible ringtone for calls coming from this number, especially if you normally have your cell phone on vibrate. Your cell phone provider should be able to share instructions on how to do this on your phone model. 

How can I submit additional emergency contact information so I can receive ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages?  Where can I verify the contact information that ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert has on file for me?

Who is responsible for sending out ºÚÁÏÃÅAlerts?

Can I include contact information for a spouse, significant other, or parent(s), so that they will be alerted during emergencies? 

A ºÚÁÏÃÅcommunity member can add additional numbers to the numbers that the institution has on file for them by . 

How quickly will I receive a ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert?

Emergency Alerts will be sent immediately upon the confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students and employees occuring on campus. Most emergency alerts by text and phone should arrive seconds to minutes after being initiated, while email alerts may take longer. 

What should I do if I use my cell phone as my home phone number (i.e., I do not have a landline at home)?

In addition to the numbers that you have provided the University, you can input up to four different phone numbers; they do not need to be landlines.

How do I use the ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert system if I am visually impaired or hard of hearing?

Visually impaired registrants will be able to rely upon the recorded emergency messages by phone, while those who are hard of hearing can receive text and email messages.

How often is the ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert system tested?

A test of the ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert system is conducted during the fall and spring semesters.

Can I opt out of receiving ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages?

No, ºÚÁÏÃÅcommunity members cannot opt out of receiving ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages. The ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert system is a vital tool for ensuring the safety and security of the campus community, and everyone must receive these messages to stay informed and take appropriate action in case of an emergency.

Will ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages be sent outside of regular business hours?

Yes, ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages may be sent outside of regular business hours if the situation warrants it.

Can I receive ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages in a language other than English?

Currently, ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert messages are only available in English.

What should I do if I receive a ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert message?

If you receive a ºÚÁÏÃÅAlert message, follow the instructions provided in the message. In some cases, you may be asked to take specific actions or to avoid certain areas of campus. The message may direct you to other sources of information or communication platforms.

When a ºÚÁÏÃÅcommunity member enrolls in ºÚÁÏÃÅAdvisory, there are options to include additional contact numbers that can be listed under the individual’s account.

How quickly will a ºÚÁÏÃÅAdvisory be sent out?

ºÚÁÏÃÅAdvisory is not intended to be an urgent response communication tool. Once a ºÚÁÏÃÅAdvisory situation is identified, users should receive notification by text and phone immediately. Email advisories may take longer.
