Academic regalia is available for purchase through . Graduates who pre-ordered regalia through Jostens can pick it up starting Monday, April 28 at the LSC Bookstore.

All regalia pieces are kept by the graduate. Doctoral students may purchase fine quality regalia, which is typically for those pursuing a career in academia. To purchase fine quality regalia, please visit the and scroll using the right-hand arrow until you see fine quality regalia.

School of Law

School of Law students must pre-order their regalia by Friday, March 21. Law students will have their regalia mailed to the address provided while ordering regalia. 

Stritch School of Medicine

Stritch School of Medicine students must pre-order their regalia by Tuesday, March 25. Stritch students will pick up their regalia at the Health Sciences on Monday, May 5. More information about regalia pick-up will be shared with Stritch students later this spring.

Student organizations can purchase custom stoles through the . At ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago, honor cords are reserved for select student groups, while stoles typically represent student organizations or activities. For more details on regalia, see below or contact commencement@LUC.edu.

Honor Cords

At ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago, honor cords signify that the wearer has attained a specific honor or distinction. Cords are awarded to individuals who achieve laudatory status, are members of a national honor society, and/or who meet specific academic achievements as defined by schools/college/institute. If you have questions regarding your student group, please contact commencement@LUC.edu. Each honor cord and their student affiliates are listed below.

  • Intertwined maroon and gold honor cords: Represent students graduating with laudatory honors of Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude
  • Double gold honor cord: Represent Stritch School of Medicine students graduating with laudatory honors of Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude
  • Double maroon honor cord: Represent School of Law students graduating with laudatory honors of Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude
  • Double maroon and gold knotted honor cord: Represent Maroon and Gold Society students
  • Intertwined red, white, and blue honor cords: Represent students who have served in the military 

 

Laudatory Status

Laudatory Status (Bachelor's Degree only)

Bachelor’s degree graduates who have completed a degree with academic distinction are identified by the burgundy and gold honor cords worn around the neck. Your Dean's Office will contact you in the coming weeks about how to receive your honor cords. 

A degree may be awarded:

  • Cum Laude, with praise, representing an overall scholastic achievement of at least 3.5 out of a possible 4.0.
  • Magna Cum Laude, with great praise, for a scholastic average of at least 3.7.
  • Summa Cum Laude, with highest praise, representing an overall scholastic average of at least 3.9.

Stoles

Stoles represent academic achievement, involvement in student organizations, or specific academic program involvement. Stole orders are placed by individuals or by student organizations. For more information, graduates should contact their student organization or the Center for Student Engagement.

If student organizations are interested in purchasing stoles to identify their group, please follow this . Each student group is responsible for the cost of their stoles. Stoles will be shipped to the address provided during check-out. If student organizations would like a symbol representing their group added to the assets available to add to their stoles, please contact commencement@LUC.edu

Please note: If you would like to receive your stole by Commencement Week, please place your order by Friday, March 7. You will still be able to order stoles after this date but there is no guarantee they will arrive prior to Commencement. If you have any questions, please contact commencement@LUC.edu
