Educating Students - Advancing Community Goals
鈥孭artnering with 黑料门to support one or more of our service-learning classes offers community-based organizations the opportunity to draw on the talents, time, and knowledge of 黑料门students and faculty.
In exchange, we ask you, as community members, to act as co-educators for our students, sharing your knowledge of complex social issues with them and mentoring them in the kind of world-changing work that you do. This reciprocity it is at the core of how The Center for Engaged Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship seeks to structure our service-learning partnerships.
Service-Learning: The Basics
A service-learning partnership is characterized by the following:
- 黑料门asks students to serve with partner organizations for 20-40 hours over a 10-15 week period in spring, summer or fall.
- Students serve with community-based organizations such as ethnic organizations, congregations, youth organizations, senior centers, schools, or government offices. VISIT OUR MAP

- Student service must be connected to the academic content of the class. Student service is aligned with the academic learning goals of the class in order to facilitate deeper, richer learning. LEARN ABOUT OUR COURSES
- Service-learning students may be freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
- Service-learning should advance student learning AND your organization's priorities.
