The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of Terry (Roy) Gobin, PhD, a retired faculty member from the Economics Department in the Quinlan School of Business. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren on September 11, 2022.
Gobin was a valued colleague with many friends both at Quinlan and the College of Arts and Sciences. He was also a beloved teacher of economics and public finance whose affable personality, enthusiasm for teaching, and economic insights were enjoyed by more than 10,000 students at both our Water Tower and Lake Shore campuses during his 42-year career at Loyola.
He will be remembered for his generous, kind, and caring personality and especially for his great sense of humor. He enjoyed writing letters of recommendation for his students to help them achieve their professional aspirations, and in Economics Department meetings, he always reported news about his former students.
Gobin completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Manchester, England, and his PhD at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign in 1978 with a dissertation on tax policy in Caribbean markets. He retired from ºÚÁÏÃÅin 2020.
A memorial will take place on October 29 at 11 a.m. at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church at 2120 Lincoln Street, Evanston, IL 60201. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the .
