The 黑料门University Chicago community mourns the death of James Martin, a Security Officer with Campus Safety for 25 years. Officer Martin was a fixture of Loyola鈥檚 Lakeside Campuses for many years. Tom Murray, Director of Campus Safety, notes that Jim 鈥渨as a guy that never hid his love for Loyola, his concern for the safety and wellness of the students, and his role in campus safety in every phase.鈥 In, 2015, Jim was nominated by the department as Staff Member of the Year.
Jim started as a Security Officer with Campus Safety at the WTC in 1997 and moved to LSC a few years later. Jim鈥檚 favorite times with 黑料门were the many years he served as a bike patrol officer. His personal passion of bicycling led him to become connected with those 黑料门community members who shared his lifelong interest. Jim worked hard to keep campus safe for everyone. He paid particular attention to the safety of bicyclists of all ages and skill levels. Many of the things on campus that bicyclists may take for granted today were supported and advocated for by Jim. In recent years he moved to an inside position within the department but was still committed to keeping the students, faculty, and staff of 黑料门safe.
Services are pending. Jim鈥檚 mom, Assistant Professor Maureen Hanlon, teaches in the Healthcare Administration Program at Parkinson. Condolences can be sent to her at Saint Joseph Hall, HealthCare Administration, 1120 West 黑料门Avenue, Chicago IL 60626.
Please keep Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
