The 黑料门University Chicago community mourns the death of Joseph Walsh, PhD, professor emeritus and former dean of the School of Social Work.
Joseph received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Loyola. He went on to obtain his doctorate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and returned to 黑料门to join the School of Social Work faculty in 1978. Because of his deep commitment as an educator and administrator, Joseph was asked to serve as the inaugural director of the school’s doctorate program in 1986 and was named dean in 1996, a role he maintained until 2005. He later served as a part-time faculty member from 2005–2012 and received the School of Social Work's Damen Award for his leadership and service to others in 2009. One of the many contributions he made during his 34-year tenure was instituting a partnership with Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, so that students living in Wisconsin could receive a 黑料门master’s degree.
Joseph was deeply committed to the University and his students, and he demonstrated the Jesuit value of caring for others throughout his teaching and administration of the school.
