2015
The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of Gregory Dobrov, PhD, associate professor and post-baccalaureate program director in the Department of Classical Studies.
Greg joined the Department of Classical Studies in 1998 and rose to the rank of associate professor. In 2011, he became the founding director of the post-baccalaureate program in Classical Studies. Throughout his career, Greg focused much of his scholarship on ancient Greek comedy; recently, he edited the magisterial A Companion to the Study of Greek Comedy (Brill 2010). Greg’s work also extended to Greek mythology and tragedy and Christian traditions, both early and Byzantine. He mentored students pursuing doctoral degrees in classical studies, philosophy, and theology. His great love was teaching Greek, and he leaves a rich legacy of past and present students and colleagues.
