2015

The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of Fadel Abdallah, PhD, a part-time professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. Fadel passed away suddenly on December 3.

Fadel joined the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures as a faculty member in 2014. A professor in the Arabic 101-102 sequence, Fadel was known for his erudition, passion for his subject, and his dedication to students. Colleagues remember a time when all of the spaces in Fadel’s spring Arabic 102 course were filled and he offered his services free of charge so that all of his students could continue their Arabic language studies. His students were very inspired by his teaching, and a number of them became Arabic Language and Culture minors because of his encouragement. Before joining Loyola, Fadel was a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland, where he taught Arabic. He was also the author of many books that provided learning resources for students studying Arabic.

Services will be held out of state. Condolences may be sent to Fadel’s wife, in care of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Crown Center, Room 217, Lake Shore Campus.

Please remember this family in your prayers.
