The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of Ruth Ashton, office coordinator for the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy. Ruth passed away on June 27.
Ruth worked at ºÚÁÏÃÅfor more than six years, starting in The Graduate School as an office clerk and then as the executive secretary. In 2013, Ruth joined the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy as the office coordinator. In her position, she assisted with data analysis, planned for events such as the Focus on Teaching and Learning, conducted business management for the office, coordinated staff training, and oversaw the development of resources related to the IDEA course evaluation system.
Ruth earned her BA in Sociology from ºÚÁÏÃÅin 2009. She was very active in mission-related activities, including the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life and prayer/reflection groups. She was also a member of the Ignatian Service Day planning committee and she showed that deeds are indeed greater than words by participating in Ignatian Service Day 2013 while on crutches.
Ruth will be remembered for her bravery, honesty, quick wit, sense of humor, passion for knowledge, and the genuine care she showed for others.
A memorial service for Ruth, with her family, was held at ºÚÁÏÃÅon Saturday, September 20.
