The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of Anthony J. Nappi, PhD, former Chair of the Biology Department and professor. Dr. Nappi passed away on October 18.

Dr. Nappi was chair of the Biology Department at ºÚÁÏÃÅfrom 1981- 1985 and maintained his faculty position until retirement. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Université de Bordeaux in France as well as research director at the National Center of Scientific Research in Gif-Sur-Yvette, France. He had extensive research collaborations in France, Italy, England, and at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. 

Dr. Nappi received his PhD in 1969 from the University of Connecticut and went on to become an internationally recognized scholar for his research that centered on innate immunity in insects, with a special emphasis on catecholamine biochemistry. During his career he published over 120 papers in some of the most prestigious journals and received grant support from both the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
