Requests and Reservations
Mass Intentions
To schedule a special intention for a weekday Mass at noon, please email MDS@LUC.edu. The suggested stipend/donation is $10.
Announcements
There are three avenues for announcing your event at Madonna della Strada Chapel:
- Madonna Times e-bulletin.
- Verbal announcements at Mass.
- Order of Service back column.
The Madonna Times is the official “bulletin” of MDS Chapel. Information submitted for publication should be complete (who, what, where, when, why, how) and should include appropriate contact information (email preferably), web links, and a photograph. The Madonna Times is emailed every Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. to over 900 subscribers and is read by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Submission deadline is Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
Verbal announcements at Sunday liturgies in Madonna della Strada Chapel are reserved for Campus Ministry events that apply to the majority of the community (i.e. a special liturgy, a retreat, a faith-based service event). Since we are limited to three verbal announcements at each Mass, precedence is given to succinct announcements that pertain to the liturgical life of the chapel community and to Campus Ministry events that are open to the entire student body. If your announcement is included, it may be edited for length and content. A campus minister or cantor will make the announcement at Mass. All verbal announcements should be included in the Madonna Times as well. Submission deadline is Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
Order of Service announcements in the back column are reserved for the discretion of Campus Ministry staff and are dependent on space available.
Mass Kits for University Programs
Mass Kits are supplied by Campus Ministry for ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity sponsored programs and liturgies that are not celebrated in Madonna della Strada Chapel. To make arrangements, please email MDS@LUC.edu at least 2 weeks in advance of your liturgy.
Reserving a Chapel
Loyola University faculty, staff, and registered student groups requesting use of ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity's chapels must complete the online form, which is only accessible on campus: Internal Usage Form.
For weddings, please visit the marriage section under Sacraments.
Funerals and Memorial Masses at Madonna della Strada Chapel
When a Christian dies, the local believing community has the responsibility to console those who mourn and to celebrate the funeral rites of the deceased. Since all the ties of friendship and affection which knit us as one throughout our lives do not unravel with death, Canon Law and the Archdiocese of Chicago mandate that funerals “must generally be celebrated in the parish church of the deceased” (Order of Christian Funerals 71, Canon 1177.1, Archdiocese Policies 703). Although there are exceptions to this rule especially for members of religious orders, this general policy recognizes the important role that the local parish has played as the spiritual home for the deceased.
Madonna della Strada Chapel is the principal Roman Catholic chapel of ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago, but it is not a parish church. Therefore, the proper setting for ministry to the bereaved family is the local parish. Campus Ministry directs ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago employees and alumni to contact their parish for a funeral.
Funerals and Memorial Masses are performed at Madonna della Strada Chapel for members of the Jesuit community. Under extraordinary circumstances and in consultation with the Rector of Madonna della Strada Chapel, Director of Campus Ministry, Assistant Director of Campus Ministry, and Senior University Administration, some exceptions do occur, as would be the case of an unexpected and sudden death of a current student.
Inquiries or questions can be directed to Steven Betancourt (sbetancourt@LUC.edu).
For those wishing to remember a deceased loved one, Mass intentions are offered at the daily Mass at 12:00 pm. Departments that have experienced a death of member are encouraged to have the mass said for this member, attend together, and following the mass, gather for the sharing of stories (comforting of each other.). Requests for mass intentions should be directed to mds@LUC.edu.
